Wills
Making a Will is important as it means that YOU get to decide what happens to your estate after your death.
Many people assume that the law will do exactly what they want in any event, but this is not always the case. Making a will also help to avoid your loved ones having to deal with additional problems at what will be a difficult time for them.
Probate
We appreciate that the time following a loved one’s death can be difficult enough without having to deal with the legal side of dealing with their affairs. We can tailor our service to suit you, and be involved as little or as much as you need. We will do our best to ensure that the estate is dealt with as efficiently and sympathetically as possible.
Although it can be difficult to provide an exact figure of the costs involved, we will provide you with an estimate following our first meeting, and will do our best to limit the costs as much as possible.
Lasting Powers of Attorney
Unfortunately as we get older, it becomes more and more difficult for us to manage our own affairs. If you prepare a Lasting Power of Attorney this will allow you to choose who should manage your affairs while you are still able to do so.
There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorney:
- Property and Financial Affairs – which will allow your appointed attorney to deal with any assets you have.
- Personal Welfare – this will allow your appointed attorney to make decisions on your behalf including about any medical treatment.
We are able to make a formal assessment as to whether you have the capacity to make a Lasting Power of Attorney, and can assist you to complete the necessary forms.
A Lasting Power of Attorney can be made at any time before you lose capacity. It can only be used once it is registered at the Office of the Public Guardian, but you can choose when you should do this. Registration of the Lasting Power of Attorney incurs a fee unless you are exempt.
